Incoming Edit Blizzard
I vaguely recall saying something last month about my manuscript being finished this month. Something about showing y'all the first couple chapters of The Last Wrathwitch? Well it turns out I lied. Things got a little out of hand at the editor's, so while it's true that I have the edited manuscript—just got it back today—I still gotta go through it.
Which...okay, there are a few edits that I have to approve or reject. Anyone wanna guess how many?
6,673, according to the Word document. Holy cow, that's a lot of misplaced commas, periods, and em-dashes. I swear I thought there'd be like, 3? Honestly, I'm super grateful to my editor; a lot of those changes are optional style things, and the bottom line is that the finished book is going to be much better because of her careful attention.
Anyway, should keep me busy for a bit, so no first chapters for you this month!
Picking Favorites
So let's talk characters instead. Much like parents favoring one or another of their children, it’s probably poor form for writers to play favorites with their characters. That said, here are a bunch of my favorite characters from my upcoming book.
And yes, I also play favorites with my real children. Well, with my child. I only have one...

Affinity is my main character, a half-assed, panic-attack prone fifteen-year-old witch with a guilty secret. Fortunately she’s also a badass. Oh, and she’s kinda funny too.

Mander is a brutal, powerful demon whose only job is to capture witches and send them off to Hell. But dang, why does he have to be so annoying about it?

The principal at Affinity’s parochial school, Sister Cat is sweet and strong. And there’s something a little strange about her. I mean, somehow she sees everything.

Simon sounds kinda terrifying, but really, he's only a little terrifying. The cranky leader of a bunch of wannabe gangster crows, he’s waaay into gangster movies…

Chubasco is some kind of rain god, and none too happy about it. Ok, I’ll say it: he’s depressed. Maybe it’s his voice. You could crack rocks with that voice.
But wait, there’s more! I really like Maximilian, Aunt Serenity, Charity Harper, and Lilith Barrington too. Oh, and Metradyne and Constance Loving are pretty cool too. Maybe I’ll talk about them next month.
Finally...
That's it for this month. Seriously, next month the final edit of my book should be finished, so I'll definitely be showing you all the first couple of chapters of The Last Wrathwitch. Probably. If all goes well.
See you then!
